Doctor-engineer in Agronomy and Doctor in Plant Pathology from the University of Nancy, France. Has also been trained in many other countries (the USA, Denmark, Holland, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, India...) in IPM, computer sciences, seed pathology, fungicide resistance, quality in the marketing and quality of agro-food products, project planning and management etc.

Professor in Plant Pathology and Integrated Diseases Management (Msc. and Ph.D. levels) at the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, Rabat, Morocco since 1971. Has published about 110 papers in international and national journals and books and advised about 90 theses (Msc and PhD).

Expert in Plant Pathology (soil , air and seed borne pathogens), Integrated Production and Protection Management (IPPM) of various crops, particularly vegetables and fruits, alternatives to Methyl Bromide, evaluation of research and teaching activities, evaluation of the impact of education on the agricultural development, implementation and coordination of national and international research projects, pesticides use and distribution etc.

Consultant for FAO, USAID, UNDP, UNEP (member and co chair of the Methyl Bromide Technical Option Committee = MBTOC), ICAMAS, GREEN PEACE, FADES, GTZ, ODI, EUROPEAN UNION and World Bank. Visiting professor to many American, European and African universities. Is also member of various national and international associations and was Vice President and President of the Arab Society for Plant Protection. Was appointed by the Inter Academy Council (IAC) as member of the international study panel to write a report requested by Kofi Anan, the former general Secretary of the United Nations, on "Realizing the promise and potential of African Agriculture: Science and technology strategies for improving agricultural productivity and food security in Africa" (www.interacademycouncil.net) and also as a member of an Ad Hoc group to follow up the report recommendations. Is a member of the Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) regional design team for the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology (IAASTD). Awarded the medal of National merit by King Mohamed VI for his contribution to Moroccan agricultural development. Is Academician, member of the Moroccan Academy of Sciences and technology. Has been awarded the UNEP Champion Award during the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Montreal Protocol (September 2007).
