Dr. Prem Warrior is the Senior Director of Global Research & Technology Assessment of Valent BioSciences Corporation. In his current role he has technical responsibility for research on plant growth regulators, microbiology, nematology, biofungicides, analytical chemistry and formulations; he is also responsible for the operations at the VBC research facility in Long Grove, Illinois. He has been involved with research on biopesticides for over 20 years. Prior to joining Valent BioSciences, he worked in the agricultural group of Abbott Laboratories in various positions at scientific and in technical management levels and has been directly involved in various aspects of the discovery of biological products including XenTari, DiTera and several fungicide compounds as well as the development of multiple current formulations of PGR, vector and forestry products. In his current role, he is also involved in the licensing and technology assessment of new leads that have resulted in building the VBC product pipeline with new PGRs and other microbial products. Prior to joining Abbott, he has carried out post-doctoral research in microbiology and physiological plant pathology at Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), France, Waksman Institute of Microbiology, New Jersey and University of Georgia. He holds a M. Sc. degree from University of Kerala, India and a Ph. D. from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. He also holds a M.B. A. degree from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Illinois. He was the co-investigator for an NIH grant on biological larvicides; he is also a member of the advisory council for the Plant Management Network of the American Phytopathological Society and the Editorial review committee of Springer publications, The Netherlands. During his career, he has published over 50 scientific publications and holds more than 20 U.S. patents/ patent applications. He has been an invited speaker at several national/international conferences on biorational pesticides and has consulted for UNIDO/FAO international programs in Asia and Africa.
