Dr. Arie is a plant pathologist especially studying on integrated management of plant diseases, and also on plant-soilborne pathogen interactions, and evolution and diversity of soilborne pathogens.  He has been collaborating with the researchers worldwide, for example, Cornell University, USA, Wageningen University, Netherlands, Can Tho University, Vietnum, La Molina Agronomy University, Peru, and Chapingo Autonomous University, Mexico.  He was awarded by the Pesticide Science Society of Japan in 1998 and by the Phytopathological Society of Japan in 2010.  He served as the secretary general of the Pesticide Science Society of Japan (2005–2008), and the Phytopathological Society of Japan (2013–2014).

Dr. Arie attended the International Plant Protection Congresses (IPPCs) two times at Rio de Janeiro in 1991 and at Honolulu in 2011 and gave presentations.

Dr. Arie is a professor in Graduate School of Agriculture of TUAT (Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology) where he has been primarily responsible for the education of the graduate and undergraduate students so far.  From 2013 Dr. Arie has been served as a councilor of TUAT in charge of education and from 2015 he is serving as an advisor for the President of TUAT.

From 2015, two JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) projects will start to enhance Can Tho University, one of the most important Agronomy-oriented university in Vietnum, to be an internationally recognized university.  As the chairman of the supporting team composed of nine Japanese universities, Dr. Arie has been involved in designing the projects.  In the forthcoming project, he is scheduled to support for a research team on integrated management of insects and diseases in Mekong-Delta region.
